Subterranean ecosystems, which exist underground, are known for being highly biodiverse – but also under-sampled and under-sequenced. Our Manager of Molecular Systematics, Dr Joel Huey, has recently contributed to a research paper which provides a roadmap for developing and curating barcode reference libraries for subterranean ecosystems.
Across Australia, conservation is often fuelled by the commitment of volunteers who work passionately to protect and regenerate our natural world. We see this dedication firsthand within our own team.
A bunch of our amazing colleagues, family and friends gave up part of their weekend to contribute to our third Gidgegannup Carbon Project planting initiative during National Volunteers Week in May.
This planting initiative is part of rehabilitation effort to restore once farmed land and see the return of the local biodiversity.
Our teams passion to protect and regenerate our natural world, working around sudden downpours, kids-sport commitments and road-crossing kangaroos, was inspiring.
The Gidgegannup Biodiverse Carbon Project is nestled into the Australia Wildlife Conservancy Paruna Conservation Estate, the project consists of 139 acres of cleared paddock and remnant vegetation.
